Eric Tangradi
Eric Tangradi is the Hockey Director and Head Coach of the boys' prep ice hockey team at Shady Side Academy, leading the program with a wealth of professional experience and a deep commitment to player development. Now in his third season at SSA, he continues to shape the Shady Side Academy hockey program into a top-tier destination for student-athletes.
Selected as a second-round pick (42nd overall) by the Anaheim Ducks in the 2007 NHL Draft, Tangradi enjoyed a 12-year professional hockey career spanning over 700 games. He played in the NHL for the Pittsburgh Penguins, New Jersey Devils, Detroit Red Wings, Montreal Canadiens, and Winnipeg Jets, while also making significant contributions in the AHL. As an assistant captain of the Grand Rapids Griffins, he helped lead the team to a 2017 Calder Cup Championship.
Beyond his professional playing career, Coach Tangradi is deeply involved in player development. He has organized skill development clinics and 1-on-1 training sessions with youth players across Western Pennsylvania, helping to grow the next generation of elite hockey talent.
Tangradi’s prep hockey background gives him a unique perspective on coaching at the independent school level. He attended Wyoming Seminary in Kingston, Pa., where he was later inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame. Before that, he was a student at Philadelphia’s Archbishop Carroll High School, where he helped lead the Patriots to a Pennsylvania Cup Class AA state hockey championship in 2004.
